How to read a birth chart properly

 There are thousand of pointers which can be looked into the Birth chart but one must look at the following points for good reading of the Birth Chart.

1. Chandra Lagna or Normal Lagna. One must find out which has more strength . The strength can be looked at number of planets in the lagna or chandra lagna and also the degrees passed in the same. the aspects should also be considered both from Graha drishti and rashi drishti perspective.

2. See where the lagna lord has gone and Planets associated with lagna lord and the houses they own. See whether 6th , 8th and 12th lord are in Trines to Lagna or lagna lord

3. Check Navamsa position of lagna lord and the also which stars the lagna lord is placed in Birth chart or rashi chart.

4. Check the nakshatra of moon and the nakshatra  to read the focus of the mind. 

5. Check which planets exalts in Chandra rashi or lagna rashi and which planets are natural enemies or gets debilitated in the same rashi.

6.  check How many planets are in earth sign , water sign etc to get what element is dominant in Chart. e.g for checking the drive and initiatives check how many planets are fire signs.

7.  Check association on 6th, 8th and 12th lords.

8.  Check how many planets are in Dharma, arth , kama , Moksha trines both in rashi and navamsa chart.

9. Check where does the arudha lagna falls and where the lord has gone and what is the association of arudha lagna lord with lagna lord. Are both enemies to each other, brotherly or supportive.

10. Check the nearest degrees of planets to check the association of planets basis G K technique of degree of planets.

11. check what time of karaka lord is lagna lord.  Whether atama karaka , Bharatri karaka , dara karaka etc.

12. Check how many planets are having drishti on lagna or lagna lord or on chandra lagna . that will influence the personality greatly.

13. check where the dispositor of chandra lagna is .Whether the same is in 6th , 8th or 12th.

14. If the dispositor of lagna lord or chandra lagna is in 5th , 9th then goods things will prevail  . If these dispositor lords are exalted then goods things will happen or vice versa.

15 One must look at the sarva ashtakvarga to look into the strength of houses.

16 It is important to see in whose star majority of planets are sitting . That Star lord and its houses will have main area of focus in life.

17. Check few Rajayoga combinations. AL Lord and atmakaraka combinations, 5th lord and 10th lord combination, 5th lord in lagna or its association with moon etc etc . List few more powerful combinations of rajayaoga planets.

18. Check which planets are panchanga lords. List them and see what kind of karaka they are. AK, DK, AmK etc etc.

19.  See which planets are retrograde. Check Parivartana of Planets .

20 Check which planets are in digbala and also check planets in combustion and retrogression.

21. planets in close conjunction are involved in  graha yudha. check the same.

22 Planets first does the work of the nakshatra its placed and then for the houses it owns. Hence pay attention to Star lord Houses also.

23. use navtara Chakra to find which planets are placed in Nidhana, vadh and other inauspicious taras. Dash of these planets will create problems. 

24 Check Conjunctions of planets. They give lot of messages. e.g sun and Jupiter conjunction brings ego (sun) with religion (jupiter)...mars and ketu shows Military (mars) and Terror (Ketu) or Pishacha Yoga or military/ fighting related.. Jupiter Ketu shows high level of spirituality or spread of Dharma 

25 Pay attention to Lagna Rashi. They show distinctive habits. e.g Tula lagna or Libra lagna people survive by creating wars. Scorpio Lagna survive by Transforming something. 

26 . Check which planets are friendly to lagna and chandra lagna. Also see 6,,8,12 from moon and see where these planets are placed in.

27 Check the Curses appearing in the chart and also planets in marana karaka sthna. Such marana karaka planets will destroy significations of that house which they own.

28. Check planets within 1 degree to each other while conjoining. This is Graha Yudha .

29 Check which Planets are in mula Trikona  and where are they placed from their Mula Trikona.

30 Check which  are in marana karaka sthana.

31. Check Graha Yuti. When Sun and Mars Combine, Sun will take out all energies of Mars because he is sitting with his exaltation sign lord. Saturn Venus does exactly the same. Rahu Mercury does the same. Jupiter Moon does the same. Reverse is also True.

32 . Check for key messages like when Moon is in 3rd house...person eats food while Travelling, If Venus is in 3rd House , person would like wife to be conversation based or does lot of conversation with Wife.

33. Study Conjunctions thorughly...Moon with venus...One wants motherly love or would like mother to hold on to her chest, drinks lot of Refined Liquids as both have jala tattva,....moon mercury keeps changing the documents information , eats vegetables (mercury), 24 X 7 scheduling , information, documents .

Effects of Birth in various drekkana

Ascendant in Sun’s Decanate: One born in the Sun’s decanate (Le. Leo) will be dirty, valorous, fond of women, cruel, adventurous, skillful in performing evil deeds, foolish and will take evil men’s side. He will eat much, will have illicit connections with his teacher’s (or elder’s) spouse, will have a limited number of sons (or progeny) and be addicted to gambling. He will be sinful, miserly, wicked, a rogue, talkative and of unsightly appearance.

 Ascendant in Moon’s Decanate: 

One born in the Moon’s decanate (i.e. Cancer) will have an excellent physique with a face resembling the full moon. He will be versed in arts and will speak much. Should the Moon at birth be not full, birth in this decanate will at some time inflict tuberculosis of the lungs. The subject will have restricted association with scriptures, be good at heart, be honoured by his kinsfolk, fickle-minded, will differentiate between the right and wrong, be an expert in foreign (matters), and be of unsightly appearance.
Notes: When the natal ascendant falls in the Moon’s decanate, good or bad effects according to the Moon’s digits will come into force.

“Videsa Kusalo” which otherwise makes no proper sense is loosely interpreted as an expert in foreign matters which can be practically for any purpose like business, dwelling etc.

Ascendant in Mars’ Decanate: 

One born in a decanate of Mars (i.e. Aries or Scorpio) will be dirty, cruel, bereft of wealth, be sinful, miserly, be devoid of any significant accomplishments, hard-hearted, unkind, of evil disposition and garrulous. He will have injured body, addicted to filling his belly, irascible, troubled by diseases, will serve others and will sacrifice all virtues.

Ascendant in Mercury’s Decanate: 

One born in the decanate of Mercury (Le. Gemini or Virgo) will be highly intelligent, ever honoured by the king, long-lived, mighty, will aye many children, be peaceful, famous and pure. He will be interested in religion or wisdom , be. not care Jess, be always liked by virtuous people, be versed In rituals, a Jewel of the family endowed with abundant wealth, of sacrificial disposition and a happy soul.

Ascendant in Jupiter’s Decanate: 

One born in Jupiter’s decanate (i.e. Sagittarius or Pisces) will be long-lived’ and bereft of sickness. He will be a lord .of intelligence (i.e. exceptionally intelligent), be quite charming in appearance, an ocean of virtues, will aim at attaining final emancipation, be righteous and endowed with means of begetting freedom from rebirths. He will be a temple of mercy (i.e. highly merciful), be peaceful, virtuous, pure, fond of befriending good women will keep away from others’ wives, be charming in appearance and full of wealth.

Ascendant in Venus’ Decanate: 

One born in a decanate of Venus (i.e. Taurus or Libra) will have an excellent physique, be entitled to royal notice, a knower of everything, be skilful in winning others’ hearts, munificent, ever a patron, and be wealthy with pearls, diamonds, excellent women and progeny. He will be merciful, pure, patient, righteous and truthful but detached.

Ascendant in Saturn’s decanate: 

One born in a decanate of Saturn (Capricorn or Aquarius) will be dirty, cruel, soft, thievish, evil-minded, miserly, devoid of significant accomplishments, will serve others, bereft of virtues, be sinful, will associate with the spouse of a teacher (or of an elder), a great tale-bearer, irascible, unkind, sad, garrulous, devoid of charming appearance and troubled by lust.

(a) lf the ascendant at birth belongs to a benefic’s decariate, or is occupied or aspected by a benefic, the person will perform good deeds and will possess wide fame. If the lord of decanate is a malefic, inauspicious results will accrue.

(b) The lord of a decanate, if exalted or in a friend’s sign, will be auspicious. A contrary situation will cause grief.

Birth in Navamsa ascendent - Check the Body shape and features on any individual

The Sun Ruling Navamsa Ascendant: 

Should Leo Navamsa ascend at birth, the person will have long and curly hair, a symmetric body with fair complexion, be profound, splendorous, be skilful in sexual acts, interested in sinful deeds, stunned and valorous. He will have an extremely unstable wealth, be of blood-red (i.e. fair) complexion, righteous, happy, cruel, will destroy foes and will have limited sons.

The Moon Ruling Navamsa Ascendant: 

The physique of one born in Cancer Navamsa will reflect the brilliance of gold. He will neither be tall nor short, will have a broad body, thick hair and charming eyes, be complete in of respect wealth, be righteous, virtuous, fond of bodily pleasures and will dress attractively.

Mars Ruling Navamsa Ascendant: 

One born in a Navamsa of Mars (Aries or Scorpio)  will have brown hair, round eyes and somewhat a depressed back, be fair in complexion, will have ugly or diseased nails and a scarred body and be lustful. He will be wicked, envious, skilful in usurping the acquisitions of females and be less righteous. He will be happy, cruel, a destroyer of foes and be very miserly.

Mercury Ruling Navamsa Ascendant: 

One born in a Navamsa of Mercury (Gemini or Virgo) will be dark-bodied, will have roving eyes, an even body, a broad chest, long and curly hair and charming teeth and waist. He will be short-lived, be skilful in buying and selling, be courageous, wealthy, happy and endowed with an excellent female, with robes, garlands and ornaments.

Jupiter Ruling Navamsa Ascendant: 

One born in a Navamsa of Jupiter (Sagittarius or Pisces) will be dark in complexion, will have a belly of lotus shape and an attractive face with eyes reflecting the brilliance of a blue lily. He will be tall, will have attractive hair and very soft palms with superior lines. He will possess intelligence of a high order, be fond of guests, highly virtuous, valorous, fond of women, wealth and will have a mellifluous voice.

 Venus Ruling Navamsa Ascendant: 

One born in a Navamsa of Venus (Taurus or Libra) will have downward-¬looking eyes, soft hair, attractive form, neck resembling a conch (Le. a well-shaped. neck), be impatient, dark in complexion, will have an attractive navel, be heroic, wealthy, virtuous, be fond of poetry, munificent, happy with robes and decorations and interested in flowers.

 Saturn Ruling Navamsa Ascendant: 

One born in a Navamsa of Saturn (Capricorn or Aquarius) will be bereft of physical splendour, will have gray hair, an emaciated and dark body, soft eyes, and be independent. He will be complete with numerous virtues, be sinful, irreligious and will have limited wealth.

Before i start reading his birth chart , we must throw some light on 9 energies to make everyone understand what 9 grahas can do and what aspects they promote in human beings .

Also,  i will discuss certain graha  combinations which can lead to deep spirituality and renunciation from material world.

Surya (Sun) graha - agni tattva

Surya represents Dharma, supreme light, life force,  father, giver of everything. Without surya , nothing exists.

Maharishi Parasara says that Surya is Siva. He is mahadeva with supreme knowledge.

Chandra (Moon) graha- Jala Tattva

Chandra controls our mind . It shows our emotions. The english word lunar means moon. When you loose your mind, its called lunatic. The vedic  birth  Tithi is calculated between distance of moon from sun.

Guru graha  ( Jupiter) akash tattva

He is priest and Teacher  of Devas . He spreads knowledge. It is Gurus energy which envraces all cultures , faiths and religions . Jupiter (Guru or Brihaspati)  is the planet for knowledge and wisdom. According to Bhagwad Gita, gyan yoga leads to realization of soul. Hence role of Jupiter in conferring Moksha need to be understood.

Ketu - agni tattva

Ketu grants moksha. It doesnt have head as head is Rahu ( our greeds) . When head is cut It releases our soul from bondage and takes us up vertically without desires and greed. It is the shunya where everthing merges with supreme.

Budh graha ( mercury) Prithvi Tattva

This graha is Child of Tara ( Jupiters wife) and chandra. He constantly promotes you to learn. Budh controls speech and is very communicative. He is the shishya .

Jyotish graha positions , conjunctions or combinations for asceticism as spelt  by our Maharishis during vedic time.

Pravraja yoga

Pravraja yoga is a yoga for asceticism and final emancipation.

When four or more planets occupy a single house or bhav in birth chart, its called pravraja yoga.

When four planets come together, what do they indicate? They indicate loss of their individual traits and merger for  a common cause. No cause is higher than salvation. If planets don’t come together, that means the desire to enjoy or experience life persists

Guru shishya Yoga.

This planetaey conjunction yoga is formed when Jupiter (Guru) and mercury (Budh)  sit togather in birth chart. The Gurū-Śiṣya Yoga (Guru-Shishya Yoga) opens up great possibilities of teaching and receiving knowledge. It is also called Bhagvad Gita Yoga. If this yoga is present in birth chart, this means that soul has come to earth for teaching or spreading  divine knowledge.

Therefore, in order to check how deeper the human being is immersed in spirituality, the above combinations should be seen and must be present in individuals birth chart.

10th Bhav from moon

The 10th bhav shows our karmic journey. It shows what actions mind will make us to do in this life. It shows ones career.

Srila Praphupad

Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami (Abhaya Caraṇāravinda Bhaktivedānta Svāmī; 1 September 1896 – 14 November 1977), born Abhay Charan De, was an Indian spiritual teacher and the founder-preceptor of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness[ (ISKCON), commonly known as the "Hare Krishna Movement". Members of the ISKCON movement view Bhaktivedānta Swāmi as a representative and messenger of Krishna Chaitanya.

Within the society he is commonly referred to as Srila Prabhupāda or Prabhupāda.

Birth chart of  Srila Prabhupad.

In Birth chart of Prabhu pad , surya, jupiter and Ketu are combined in 9th House of Dharma in his birth chart. He established 108 temples of Sri Krsna in various parts of world  and is  founder of Hare krsna movement in west

When we see his 10th bhav from lagna, He wrote so many books on krishna and interpretation of Gita due to Guru graha in 9th Bhav.

Guruji was born on July 7, 1954. We dont have his birth time but we can read planetary positions on that day.

You can see that there are 4 planets combining on day of his birth. These are Surya, Ketu, Jupiter and mercury.

Therefore pravajya yoga is complete in his birth chart. This entire 4 planet conjunction is happening in 12th bhav from moon. Therefore there is no iota of Doubt that mind was constantly in deep meditation.

Further , Jupiter ( guru)  association with mercury (budh) in this 4 planets conjunction  also confirms guru sisya yoga.

Leader of masses-- Shani chandra yoga

Shani represents common  people , down trodden section of society , Old age People, matured , person who is very Traditional , labour organisations. The colour of shani is blue. Direction of Shani is West.

Chandra represents minds of people. The colour of chandra is white.

When Chandra is in rashi of Shani , then such natives think about common people or people who are not from affluent class.

Similarly , it has been seen that when Saturn is in Cancer (Zodiac sign number 4) or Karaka Rashi, then saturn becomes very powerful from leadership perspective.

In modern world companies , Shani represents Human resource or Blue collar working class. The white coller people are represented by Knowledge workers.

Shani controls Makar rashi and Kumbh Rashi. Both these rashis are 7th and 8th from chandra. Kumbh is more dangerous as it s 8th from chandra so life threatening.

From Makar rashi , Karaka rashi of chandra is 7th and hence opposite .
From Kumbh rasi , karka is 6th from Kumbh and hence brings obstacles .

If the following combinations arise, there is a high chance that a person will become leader of masses or may also get killed .

1. If Shani is with Chandra.
2. If shani is opposite to Chandra.
3. If Chandra is in Rashi of Shani or Shani is in Rashi of chandra.
4. If Chandra is aspecting shani from Grah Drishti or Rashi Drishti.
5. If Shani or Chandra have argala on each others rashi.
6. If Shani or chandra are Trines to each other.

She was an Indian politician and a central figure of the Indian National Congress. She was the first and, to date, the only female Prime Minister of India. Indira Gandhi was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India.

Full name: Indira Priyadarshini Nehru

Assassinated: 31 October 1984, New Delhi

Powerful Shani is in lagna in karka Rashi. Chandra is opposite to Shani and is in Makar Rashi. This is generating a very powerful Yoga . She ruled India for almost 30 + years in India.  This completes the Shani Chandra Yoga.2. Benezir Bhutto

Date of Birth: Jun 21, 1953

Time of Birth: 20:30:00

Place of Birth: Pakistan

Shani has positive argala on the moon . However Chandra has obstruction argala on Shani. This means that there will be obstacles and hurdles .

The name of her Party was Pakistan People (shani) party. In her chart Shani and chandra have argala on each other which completes the Yoga of the leader of masses.

3. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto



 He was a Pakistani barrister and politician who served as the 9th Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977, and prior to that as the fourth President of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973. He was also the founder of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and served as its chairman until his execution in 1979.




Shani and Chandra are aspecting each other which Completes the Yoga for leader of the masses.

4.  Rajiv Gandhi

Date of Birth: Sunday, August 20, 1944

Time of Birth: 09:53:40

Place of Birth: Mumbai

He was an Indian politician who served as the 6th Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. He took office after the 1984 assassination of his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to become the youngest Indian Prime Minister at the age of 40.

Shani aspecting with its 3rd drishti on Chandra. This completes the Yoga and he was leader of the masses.

5. Barrack Obama

He  is an American politician and attorney who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the first African-American president of the United States. He previously served as a U.S. senator from Illinois from 2005 to 2008 and an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004.

Date of Birth: Aug 4, 1961

Time of Birth: 19:24:0

Place of Birth: Honolulu

Look at his chart, Shani is very strong as it is in his own Rashi makar or capricorn. Chandra or Moon is 5th or in trines from Shani .  Both have rashi drishti on each other. This completes the yoga and he became the most powerful leader of the world (Shani with Jupiter).

6. Donald Trump

Date of Birth: Jun 14, 1946

Time of Birth: 10:54:0

Place of Birth: New York

Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is the 45th and current president of the United States. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality.

Look at his Birth Chart. Shani is in rashi of chandra . Both chandra and shani are aspecting each other through rashi drishti. 

Planets in 5th from any planet have argala . In this case chandra has shubh argala on shani. However Shani has Virodhargala on chandra. Therefore this Yoga is complete for leader of the masses.

7. Bill Clinton 

William Jefferson Clinton (born William Jefferson Blythe III; August 19, 1946) is an American politician who served as the 42nd president of the United States from 1993 to 2001. Prior to his presidency, he served as governor of Arkansas (1979–1981 and 1983–1992) and as attorney general of Arkansas (1977–1979). A member of the Democratic Party, Clinton was known as a New Democrat, and many of his policies reflected a centrist "Third Way" political philosophy. He is the husband of former secretary of state and former U.S. senator Hillary Clinton. In 1998, Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives, becoming the second U.S. president to be impeached, after Andrew Johnson. The impeachment was based on accusations that Clinton committed perjury and obstruction of justice for the purpose of concealing his affair with Monica Lewinsky, a 22-year-old White House intern. He was acquitted by the Senate and completed his term in office.

Look at his birth chart. Shani is aspecting (drishti)  moon with its 10th Drishti. This completes the Yoga of mass leadership.

8.  J Jayalalitha

 Date of Birth: Tuesday, February 24, 1948

She was an Indian politician and film actress who served six times as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for over fourteen years between 1991 and 2016.

We do not have her date of Birth but on the day of the Birth , planetary positions have been made. 

Look at the Chart where Saturn is again in Cancer rashi of moon like Bill Clinton and Indira Gandhi. She was the powerful Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.

9. M Karunanidhi

Muthuvel Karunanidhi (3 June 1924 – 7 August 2018) was an Indian writer and politician who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for almost two decades over five terms between 1969 and 2011. He had the longest tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu with 6,863 days in office. He was also a long-standing leader of the Dravidian movement and ten-time president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party. Before entering politics, he worked in the Tamil film industry as a screenwriter. He also made contributions to Tamil literature, having written stories, plays, novels, and a multiple-volume memoir. He was popularly referred to as "Kalaignar" (Artist) and "Mutthamizharignar" (Tamil Scholar) for his contributions to Tamil literature

Again Moon is having 5th argala on Shani from 8th Bhav. His shani is exalted and very powerful and thats why he was the most longest serving chief Minister of India. Shani and moon have Rashi drishti on each other.

10. M G Ramachandran

Date of Birth: Jan 17, 1917

Time of Birth: 09:15:00

Place of Birth: Kandy

Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran (17 January 1917 – 24 December 1987), popularly known as M.G.R, was an Indian politician and film actor who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for ten years between 1977 and 1987. He is a cultural icon in the state and is regarded as one of the most influential actors of Tamil cinema. He was popularly known as "Makkal Thilagam" (People's King) as he was popular with the masses. He was a philanthropist and a humanitarian icon.

Looking at his Birth Chart, again we find that Shani is in Cancer rashi of chandra. Moon has Shubh argala on shani because moon is placed 4th from Shani  where as Shani has Virodhargala on moon as shani is placed 10th from moon.

11. Arvind Kejriwal 

Arvind Kejriwal (born 16 August 1968) is an Indian politician and a former bureaucrat who is the current and 7th Chief Minister of Delhi since February 2015. He was also the Chief Minister of Delhi from December 2013 to February 2014, stepping down after 49 days of assuming power. Currently, he is the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, which won the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections with a historic majority, obtaining 67 out of 70 assembly seats. In 2006, Kejriwal was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in recognition of his involvement in the grassroots level movement Parivartan using right to information legislation in a campaign against corruption. The same year, after resigning from Government service, he donated his Magsaysay award money as a corpus fund to found the Public Cause Research Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
